HiWe have upgraded from Sharepoint Server 2007 to Sharepoint Server 2010.Can you please advise the following:-1) Can Sharepoint Designer 2007 be used with Sharepoint Server 2010?2) What is the difference between 32bit and 64bit Sharepoint Designer? What extra features does it provide?3) Can a Sharepoint Server 2010 64bit with Sharepoint Designer which is 32bit?4) I believe that even after you migrate Sharepoint Server 2007 to 2010 you can still have the look & feel of 2007 sites.

If the sites still have 2007 look & feel does that mean if we want to edit a site we will need Sharepoint Designer2007?5) How do we do a silent install of Sharepoint Designer?Kind Regards. The only time that you're liable to see SPD errors (and I've never seen any of this nature) is if you're using a 32bit driver / DLL when a modification or SharePoint itself expects the 64bit version.I see this often within SP2007 environments with DataSheet view and Office 2010.

The right version of the SharePoint Office addins must be used or SP gets confused when trying to call the Active-X application. So, take care with the Office Installs. Hi Bob,To Answer your question, generally there is no difference in 32 bit and 64 bit. That purely depends on processor configuration. Theterms 32-bit and 64-bit referto the way a computer's processor (also called a CPU ),handles information. The 64-bit version of Windows handles large amounts of random access memory (RAM) more effectively than a 32-bit system. So software has been made compatible to these processor and named it as 32 bit or 64 bit.1) You can not use 2007 SPD in SP 2010.2) See above.3) No.4) No, SPD 2010 can be only used for SP 2010.5)Extract the files.sharepointdesigner.exe /extract:serversharefolder (i.e. sharepointdesigner.exe /extract:server01share01spd)From there follow similar instructions to the Office 2010 silent install, except using the SharePointDesignerWW directory and msi file.I haven't tried it, but it should work.Hope this is helpful.

Hi Bob.You can still use SPD 2010 32 Bit in your client to connect to SharePoint 2010 64Bit, it would work.I used SPD2010 32 bit in one of my development from win 7 client 32 bit.You cannot use SharePoint Designer 2007 to connect SP2010, which is not supported.for your question 4, although SharePoint 2010 has the look of feel of SharePoint 2007, it is a SP 2010 site now.

(64-bit)

So you should use only SharePont designer 2010 to connect to SharePoint 2010, SPD versions (32/64) does not matterHope this helps!Ram - SharePoint ArchitectBlog -Please vote or mark your question answered, if the reply helps you.
